Hello. I’m Rochelle Knight, a multifaceted woman, medical doctor and writer who was born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica. I have a whole blog dedicated to my travels around Jamaica, especially off-the-beaten-path places and waterfalls, so I guess I don’t have to tell you that I enjoy adventure. You can learn more about that here. Don’t let that fool you though. I’m a bit of a coward but I’m glad I realized young that the secret to enjoying life is escaping one’s comfort zone, so I try to do just that every chance I get.
Being brave isn’t the absence of fear, it’s learning to act in spite of it.

A medical career takes up most of my life as expected. Medicine takes an immense amount of sacrifice, determination and diligence, even long before the acceptance letter into medical school. However, I do try to maintain a life outside of the major and career I chose perhaps too young, going out and exploring new places when I’m not on call. Nonetheless, I’m still a home-body at heart, spending most of my free time writing both online and in private, reading other blogs and Thought Catalog, and listening to reggae, dancehall and soca like the quintessential Caribbean woman. I also enjoy trying new foods and restaurants.

Other things I think you may find interesting about me: I’ve lost 40-lbs during my lifetime and while I’ve never reached my desired weight goal, I still feel as if I’ve accomplished something major by learning to get my emotional eating under control. Intuitive eating, portion sizing, SparkPeople and Jillian Michaels workout videos from YouTube were my secrets– not one gym nor crash diet was used in the making of this slimmer healthier me! I’m also a proud naturalista. I last relaxed (chemically straightened) my hair in April 2013 and big-chopped (cut off the straight ends) in December that year. That big chop, TWA and my subsequent short-lived tapered cut of 2017 have been some of the most empowered feelings in my life so far.
I hope you enjoyed learning more about me. For more on my travel philosophy and the back story of how Adventures from Elle was created, click here. Also, if you’d like to work with me, let’s talk here.
As we say in Jamaica, walk good! 🇯🇲

Thank you so much! So happy to have been of help. 🙂 I hope it has encouraged you to see more of the island and not just what’s behind the resort gates if you choose to stay at a resort when you visit.
