1. Blue Mountain Coffee Tours

Jamaica produces one of the most famous coffees in the world: Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee. Grown at high elevations in the Blue Mountains, Jamaica’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site, these beans are prized for their smooth flavour and low bitterness. For travelers staying in Kingston, the capital city, one of the most popular experiences is a Blue Mountain coffee farm tour from Kingston. Located just under an hour from Kingston, Craighton Estate offers one of the most accessible and informative Blue Mountain coffee tours in Jamaica (check out my review). Visitors walk through the coffee fields while learning about: coffee cultivation and harvesting, bean processing and roasting, what makes Blue Mountain coffee so valuable and traditional Jamaican coffee production techniques. The tour ends with a tasting session overlooking the spectacular Blue Mountain landscape. Some visitors also explore nearby boutique farms such as Lime Tree Farm for smaller-scale coffee experiences, but Craighton Estate remains the most established coffee tour close to Kingston.

Bonus: Check out the annual Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee Festival in March.

Rum has been produced in Jamaica for centuries, and the island’s distilleries are known worldwide for their bold flavours and traditional pot-still methods. Three rum distilleries offer guided tours in Jamaica, where visitors can learn how sugarcane is transformed into the Caribbean’s most iconic spirit. These are:

  1. Worthy Park Estate: Located in St. Catherine, this historic estate is home to the closest rum distillery to Kingston. The experience includes a sugarcane processing demonstration, a tour of the distillation facilities, aging warehouses where rum matures in barrels and guided rum tastings (read my review).
  2. Appleton Estate: One of the most famous rum distillery tours in Jamaica, Appleton Estate sits in the scenic Nassau Valley. Visitors can explore historic copper pot stills, rum aging houses, sugar cane fields and guided tastings of Appleton’s premium rums. Appleton is located on the outskirts of the Cockpit Country, and is best accessed from Negril, Treasure Beach or Montego Bay (read my review).
  3. Hampden Estate: Near Falmouth, Hampden Estate produces some of the most aromatic funky traditional rums in the Caribbean. The distillery tour focuses on Jamaica’s history, historic fermentation techniques, traditional pot still distillation and premium rum tastings.
