16 Photos Showcasing the Beauty of St. Ann in Jamaica

Saint Ann is the largest parish in Jamaica, located on the island’s north coast. It is named for  Lady Anne Hyde, the first wife of King James II of England. You may know this parish for the resort town of Ocho Rios or perhaps even Runaway Bay or Discovery Bay. St. Ann lies almost smack in the middle of Jamaica and is also called the Garden Parish in light of its floral beauty. St. Ann is one of Jamaica’s oldest populated areas, tracing back to 600–650 AD. It is believed to be the earliest settlement in Jamaica. The Tainos, Jamaica’s pre-Columbian aboriginal people, were its first settlers. Christopher Columbus first landed in Jamaica at Discovery Bay, St. Ann in 1494. He eventually lived there for a year after being marooned in the Caribbean on his fourth voyage to the New World. The first Spanish settlement in Jamaica was at Sevilla la Nueva, and you can explore its colourful history today at the Seville Heritage Park. Today we take a look at 16 photos which showcase the beauty of this parish. See why we call St. Ann the Garden Parish of Jamaica.

Agreed! Only Portland and St. Elizabeth can compare, at least for me 🙂

Corny as it is, I liked ALL of the photos in this post! But the one which really grabbed my attention was the fifth photo (with all of its greenery); the Dunn’s River falls was a close second! Such a lush place to be in Jamaica, and certainly a massive contrast to the desert here in California! Thanks for sharing another beautiful spot in your home country. 🙂

Thank you! St. Ann has about 10 rivers so the parish is kept lush and green 🙂 thanks for stppping by Rebecca! I wouldn’t mind experiencing the desert contrast one day

These photos are gorgeous!! I miss the tropics – only been to a tropical place once in my life and I want to go back. I would love to visit Jamaica one day 🌴

Thank you! On the contrary I have only left the tropics just once and that was to a temperate region in the autumn, which was nothing. I hope to experience a true winter with snow one day 🙂 thanks for reading and I hope you get to visit

We get lots of snow in Canada. Especially Alberta where I currently live – cold, snowy winters. I would love to live in a tropical place that doesn’t get snow. As the saying goes, “we always want what we can’t have.” 😂

I don’t think I’d love the cold snowy winters as much as my tropical beachside winters 😅 however, I’d love to experience it. Maybe it’s due to the Hallmark Christmas movies 🙂

Amen! 😄 pity we have to leave sometimes in search of opportunities

    2. Janice Reid Avatar

True, can you image how much better we would be if we could keep all that education and talent that leave within the country. I would probably still be there😊.

Yes, I did enjoy this post, and I can see why St. Ann Parish is considered the most beautiful! You photos are amazing, but I know it’s just as beautiful in person!

Thank you! The only parishes which beat St. Ann in beauty for me are Portland and St. Elizabeth 🙂
