10 Best Places to Stay in Montego Bay, Jamaica

Montego Bay is Jamaica’s most popular destination, offering everything from eco-cottages and budget-friendly stays to world-class luxury resorts. Montego Bay is Jamaica’s second city on the island’s northwestern coast, known for its exclusive white sand beaches, beachfront hotels, golf courses and a busy cruise ship pier. I’m based in the capital city of Kingston which is three hours away from Montego Bay by car (171km), but I’ve had the pleasure of staying in Montego Bay several times. In this guide, I rank the best places to stay in Montego Bay, Jamaica from lowest to highest price, so you can easily find the perfect option for your travel style and budget.

1. Animal Farm Eco-Cottages

If you’re looking for the most affordable and unique place to stay near Montego Bay, Jamaica, this is it. Animal Farm’s Eco-Cottages offer an off-grid, nature-immersed experience that feels completely different from traditional resorts. Meet the animals, explore the forest, cool off at the river and live how nature intended for a few days to reset your nervous system. I loved the peaceful nature-focused setting and admired its owner for his vision in creating a one-of-a-kind sanctuary just thirty minutes from central Montego Bay. Of note, the property has been closed since October 2025 due to damage from Hurricane Melissa, but given how special Animal Farm is, I fully expect it to reopen soon bigger and better.

2. Verney House Resort

Verney House Resort is one of the most affordable hotels in Montego Bay, Jamaica. I stayed here in 2022 after my flight to Lima was postponed since driving back to Kingston was out of the question, and it turned out to be a great last-minute find. The staff were warm and accommodating, and while the property is a bit dated and no-frills, it was clean and comfortable. Back then, their prices were– and still are, unmatched. I also love how quiet the property was, and its well-maintained lawns are perfect for garden events and weddings.

Located on Montego Bay’s Hip Strip, Deja Resort puts you within walking distance of iconic beaches, restaurants, and nightlife. Even better, Deja Resort offers the most affordable all-inclusive experience in Jamaica and provides guests with authentic local hospitality. So, if you’re on a budget and want to stay at an all-inclusive hotel in Montego Bay, Jamaica, Deja Resort is your best bet.

4. Iberostar Rose Hall

Iberostar Resort

Iberostar Rose Hall is an expansive beachfront all-inclusive resort with a wealth of activities, restaurants, bars, cafes, lounges and pools for couples and families to enjoy. My favourite part of this stay was cruising down its lazy river all afternoon, drink in hand, without a care in the world. The hotel also offers an exclusive gymnasium, spa, sauna and hammam for health-conscious guests.

If you prefer a more modern, stylish stay, Hotel 39 delivers. My husband has stayed here a few times on business trips and admires the hotel’s sleek, contemporary design, its rooftop pool and lounge, and walkable location as it’s also located on Montego Bay’s Hip Strip. Additional facilities at Hotel 39 include a restaurant with local and international fare, a bar and yoga classes, catering to relaxation and fitness needs. Even better, Hotel 39 offers great value for an excellent price point.

The award-winning S Hotel Montego Bay is one of the most stylish hotels in Montego Bay, blending modern luxury with Jamaican culture. This 4-star all-inclusive beachfront hotel offers an iconic rooftop pool and features a strong design aesthetic. 7. Grand Palladium Jamaica Resort & Spa

I’ve stayed at the all-inclusive Grand Palladium Resort & Spa twice, and it consistently delivers great value. While it’s about 40 minutes outside Montego Bay, you get a full resort experience at a lower price than luxury properties in Montego Bay city proper. Grand Palladium is a huge property with multiple restaurants, activities and pools, including the largest freshwater pool in Jamaica and one of the largest in the Caribbean. This hotel is great for families and groups, and offers strong value for an all-inclusive stay, making it one of the best hotels in Jamaica.

When it comes to adults-only all-inclusive luxury in Montego Bay, Jamaica, Sandals is a top choice. There are two Sandals Resorts properties in Montego Bay. Here’s how they compare:

  • Sandals Montego Bay offers a lively and social atmosphere, a larger private beach and is closer to the airport. Pick Sandals Montego Bay for high energy and beachy vibes.
  • Sandals Royal Caribbean is the more intimate and romantic hotel of the two with a private offshore island and overwater bungalows. Choose Sandals Royal Caribbean for privacy and romance, perfect for weddings and honeymoons. However, please note that both properties are currently closed until December 18, 2026 following the recent devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa.

Quick Summary by Traveler Type

Wrap Up

Montego Bay truly has something for everyone—from budget-friendly stays to ultra-luxury resorts, making it one of the best Caribbean destinations for most travelers. That being said, I seldom visit Montego Bay as it’s three hours away from Kingston where I live, and I personally find the city centre too touristy for my tastes. Have you ever visited Montego Bay or would you like to visit? What do you think of the city? Sound off in the comments section below. ‘Til next time.
