If you’re looking for nature and adventure, exploring waterfalls is one of the best things to do near Negril. Visit Benta River Falls for an off-the-beaten-path experience with multiple cascading pools perfect for relaxing. Mayfield Falls is another favourite for guided river walks through lush greenery, while Roaring River Park and Cave offers a mix of waterfalls, caves, and mineral springs. These locations give you a chance to experience Jamaica’s natural beauty beyond the beaches, and you’ll soon realize that Jamaica has dozens of waterfalls besides Dunn’s River, the island’s most famous attraction.
2. Relax on the Beach
No trip to Negril is complete without time on Seven Mile Beach, one of the best beaches in the Caribbean. With its powdery white sand and calm turquoise water, it’s perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and long sunset walks. I love that Seven Mile Beach is accessible for locals, as many of Jamaica’s beaches are not. My favourite stretches of Negril coastline are located at the White Sands Negril, Charela Inn and Skylark Hotels. For a quieter alternative, head to the Bloody Bay Beach by visiting the Jamwest Beach Park (free). Once a hub for whalers in the 1800s who would colour the seawater red by dumping unusable parts of whale carcasses there, this present-day beach offers calm waters and a relaxed atmosphere, making it ideal for families and travelers looking to escape the crowds.
3. Swim at Blue Hole Mineral Spring
Blue Hole Mineral Spring is one of the most unique attractions in Negril. Hidden in the Westmoreland countryside, this limestone sinkhole filled with mineral-rich water at 24 feet below the ground offers a one-of-a-kind swimming experience. While Jamaicans don’t typically use the term, this site is essentially a cenote—a natural sinkhole formed when limestone collapses, revealing groundwater beneath. Cenotes are commonly associated with Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula, but Blue Hole fits the definition perfectly due to its limestone geology and underground water source. Visitors can jump into the deep blue water or take a ladder down for a gentler entry.

For a deeper cultural experience, explore local agriculture with a visit to the Bluefields Organic Fruit Farm. Jumping platforms range in height from 10 to even 85 feet, so I’m fine watching from the viewing deck.😅 Other popular activities include:

One of Negril’s nearest attractions is a lesser-known spot, the Abeokuta Paradise Nature Park. Named for a place in southern Nigeria which bears topographical similarity, Abeokuta is believed to contain Jamaica’s oldest swimming pool—and possibly the oldest in the Caribbean. Carved into Jamaica’s natural limestone, this 500-year old historic pool offers a unique swimming experience nestled into a beautiful garden with a panoramic countryside view. Unlike other gems on this list, there aren’t any organized tours or reservations required. So, if you make the trek, you may have the attraction to yourself. 🙂
