Montego Bay isn’t just Jamaica’s tourism capital— it’s also an exciting culinary destination. From waterfront seafood spots to elegant plantation dining and international cuisine, Montego Bay offers a diverse food scene that caters to every type of traveler. As I mentioned earlier in this series, I’m based in Jamaica’s capital city of Kingston which is three hours away from Montego Bay by car (171km), but I’ve had the pleasure of visiting this city a few times. So, if you’re staying in Montego Bay and craving delicious food, these are my recommendations for the ten best places to eat in Montego Bay.

1. Pier 1

If you only have time for one restaurant in Montego Bay, make it Pier 1. This iconic waterfront hotspot blends fresh seafood, lively nightlife, and unbeatable sunset views. Operating since 1986, it’s known for its open-air dining and energetic atmosphere that transitions seamlessly from dinner to party mode. Expect dishes like fish, lobster, and classic Jamaican favourites like jerk chicken and oxtail. But truthfully, the main draw here is the vibe—think cocktails in hand, music in the background, and the Caribbean Sea right at your feet. For added safety, consider booking a nightlife tour to Pier One which eliminates the stress of navigating unfamiliar roads, especially after a night of drinking alcohol.
2. The Houseboat Grill

Dining on a floating houseboat? Yes, really. The Houseboat Grill offers one of the most unique dining experiences in Jamaica, set in the calm waters of the Montego Bay Marine Park Fish Sanctuary. With an intimate setting and ever-evolving menu, it’s ideal for date night or special occasions. Seafood is the star here—fresh lobster, grilled fish, and creative fusion dishes elevate the experience. Add in harbour views and candlelit ambiance, and you’ve got one of Montego Bay’s most memorable meals.
3. The Pelican Grill

A staple on Montego Bay’s Hip Strip for several decades, The Pelican Grill is where you go for authentic, home-style Jamaican cooking and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. This family-owned restaurant serves Jamaican classics and is unpretentious, affordable, and deeply rooted in Jamaican culinary tradition—perfect if you want a true taste of the island.
4. Sugar Mill Restaurant

For a luxurious dining experience in Montego Bay, Jamaica, the Sugar Mill Restaurant is in a league of its own. Located within the historic Half Moon Resort, this fine dining gem is set beside a centuries-old sugar mill, blending history with elegance. The cuisine is a refined take on Jamaican flavours, crafted by award-winning chefs. Think beautifully plated seafood, premium meats, and a world-class wine list. This is the place for anniversaries, proposals, or any moment worth celebrating.
5. Uncorked West

Wine lovers, this one’s for you. I’ve dined a few times at Uncorked’s location in Kingston and had a great time. So, while I’ve never dined at their Montego Bay location, I’ve heard that the service and quality is just as superb. Uncorked West in Montego Bay offers a sophisticated dining experience with a focus on wine pairings and contemporary cuisine. The menu features tapas-style dishes and elevated comfort food, making it perfect for a laid-back evening with friends or a casual date night. It’s a refreshing departure from traditional Jamaican fare while still delivering big on flavour.
6. Mystic Thai

Craving something different? Mystic Thai brings authentic Thai cuisine to Montego Bay, offering a flavourful escape from Caribbean staples. From pad Thai and green curry to dim sum, the menu is diverse and well-executed. The ambiance is sleek and modern, making it a great choice for those looking to mix up their dining experience and eat international cuisine while in Jamaica. Their Kingston location which opened in 2023 is just as excellent.
7. Tracks & Records

Founded by sprint legend Usain Bolt, Tracks & Records is one of Montego Bay’s most popular casual dining spots, known for its energetic atmosphere and Jamaican comfort food. While the Montego Bay location closed following hurricane damage in October 2025, there’s strong anticipation that it will reopen bigger and better in the future. In the meantime, visitors can still enjoy the brand’s vibrant experience at its Kingston location in Marketplace.
8. Bellefield Estate’s Restaurant

Step into history at the Bellefield Great House, Gardens and Restaurant, one of the few plantation estates in Jamaica to have been converted into a restaurant. This restaurant offers traditional Jamaican dishes with a refined twist, served in a charming colonial setting. It’s a quieter, more cultural dining experience that feels worlds away from the busy resort strip. Their highly-anticipated monthly Sunday Brunch recently went on a hiatus but is set to return bigger and better soon.
9. Bamboo Beach Club

For romance, few experiences rival the chef-curated four-course sunset dinner at the Bamboo Beach Club. Set right on the beach, this romantic dining experience combines gourmet cuisine with live entertainment and breathtaking ocean views. It’s more than just dinner—it’s an immersive experience designed for couples or special celebrations, complete with attentive service and a relaxed, upscale atmosphere. While Bamboo Beach Club is located almost an hour from Montego Bay, it’s worth the drive. 10. Marguerites

Last but not least, Marguerites is Montego Bay’s quintessential fine dining restaurant. Located along the waterfront, Marguerites offers a refined menu blending classic culinary traditions with modern Caribbean flair. Expect dishes like bouillabaisse, sea bass, rack of lamb, and expertly crafted cocktails. With its elegant décor and ocean views, Marguerites is perfect for a sophisticated or romantic night out.
Wrap Up
Montego Bay’s dining scene is not as vibrant as Kingston, but it has several exciting options. Whether you’re indulging in fine dining at Sugar Mill, enjoying authentic Jamaican comfort food at The Pelican Grill, or sipping cocktails at Pier 1, there’s something here for every palate. For the best experience, try to mix it up—combine local flavours, international cuisine, and at least one waterfront dinner. That’s the real recipe for experiencing Montego Bay through its food.
