When I visited my first waterfall in January 2016, I didn’t realize this would become the start of a new hobby (some would say obsession based on my Instagram account and I learnt recently that ‘waterfall girl’ is the name I go by in a few of my colleagues’ minds). I fell in love with Jamaica that much more, finally seeing the side of the island only tourists or the very adventurous post about.

Our Taino ancestors didn’t name Jamaica ‘Land of Wood and Water’ for nothing, and there’s a lot to learn from our waterfalls too as I already wrote about here. Jamaica has over fifty waterfalls, a number which is subject to change. That’s not because Jamaica is spawning new waterfalls as we speak, but rather, many of these gems are still thankfully hidden, wild and free. Besides lists such as these, the only way you’ll ever hear about some of them is via word of mouth, or maybe social media. A few are tiny trickles while others are luxurious cascades with a large pool beneath for swimming. What can I say? Jamaican beauties come in all shapes and sizes (hehe). Do, I beg of you. If you visit an uncommercialized waterfall because you heard of it from me, don’t spoil it for successive visitors. With that said, check out my master list with 50+ Jamaican waterfalls.

Which waterfalls have you visited from this list, and which are your favourites? Tell me below in the comments. 🙂 If I missed any waterfalls too, don’t be selfish. Drop the name of the waterfall and its location in the comments. Or keep it to yourself. I understand. ‘Til next time. ✌🏽

Elle, these wonderful posts bring back some great memories. I have been to a few of these falls, but there are many that I hope to see. What about Rolling river in St Ann, near where the Dr No movie was filmed ?

Lovely! And I’m crazy about waterfalls. If you want a long, flowing look sometimes, a slow shutter speed can work wonders if you have a camera with different shutter speeds.

Unfortunately I don’t own a camera. I take all pictures with my phone, but one day soon hopefully I’ll be able to purchase one. 🙂

Thanks for enlightening me about Jamaican waterfalls, Elle. I am from St Mary, but I have never heard about Tacky falls. I can’t wait to buy your book. Blessings.

A book is really something I should tackle someday, hopefully sooner than later. Thank you, and thanks for reading! Did you know about the other 2 in St. Mary then?

Not at all. I am nearer to St Andrew. But I did spend some time in Highgate.

Thank you for the lovely photos. Some of the falls are new to me. Important omissions include Roaring River Falls and Maggotty Falls, both depleted by hydro-power schemes, and Llandovery Falls which appear on Jamaica’s first pictorial postage stamps (1900 & 1901).

Thank you! I didn’t know Roaring River had waterfalls and Llandovery is new to me as well. I must certainly make an update. Also, Magotty Falls are the same as Breadnut Valley Falls.

We spent a lot of time in Jamaica with our business and made a lot of friends. Traveling around the countryside was always our favorite. You have a lot of material to work with.

This list is not complete. Clarendon does have at least one waterfall I’m aware of. This is known as ‘Spring’ in Morris Hall, Rock River. In recent years, NWC has been harvesting water from it to serve the community. I’ve been there twice. Last time was in February, 2018.

Thanks! Once I can find it online I’ll make the update. I’ve also recently heard of and seen pictures of a waterfall in Sanguinetti, Clarendon. The list will keep growing as I learn of & visit new waterfalls in Jamaica.

Absolutely beautiful web site. My wife and I took our honeymoon fifty-four (54) years ago to Jamaica. Apparently it worked. We have been back twice since that time. Thank you for posting. I certainly have become a follower.
