1. Visit a Waterfall.

One of the most iconic Ocho Rios attractions is its spectacular waterfalls. This area of Jamaica is famous for cascading rivers flowing directly into the Caribbean Sea. The most famous is Dunn’s River Falls, where visitors can climb the terraced limestone waterfall with or without a guide while cool water flows around them. It’s one of the most popular things to do in Ocho Rios, Jamaica and attracts visitors from around the world.

Nearby, you’ll find the quieter Little Dunn’s River Falls, a local spot which is now partially reopened to the public, and offers a more relaxed waterfall experience. Another beautiful option is Konoko Falls, located inside a botanical garden with scenic views overlooking the town. Lastly, for adventurous travelers, Blue Hole (Ocho Rios) — also called Island Gully Falls — is one of the most exciting Ocho Rios waterfalls. Guided tours to Blue Hole allow visitors to jump into turquoise pools, swing on ropes, and explore hidden caves. Many tours here also include tubing, ziplining or taking a catamaran cruise along the coast.
2. Relax at the Beach.

No visit to Ocho Rios would be complete without spending time at the beach. The town is home to several beautiful stretches of sand where you can swim, relax, or enjoy water sports. Some of the most popular Ocho Rios beaches include Mahogany Beach, Pleasure Cove and the Ocho Rios Bay Beach (also called Turtle Beach). Just a short drive away in Oracabessa, James Bond Beach is another great spot known for its scenic views and relaxed atmosphere. For a unique experience, some beaches around Ocho Rios also offer clear kayak photoshoots where you can pose in a transparent kayak on turquoise water — a popular activity for Instagram-worthy vacation photos.
3. Go Tubing or Rafting on the White River.

Floating down a tropical river surrounded by lush greenery is one of the most relaxing Ocho Rios excursions. The White River offers both tubing and bamboo rafting experiences. Guides take visitors down gentle river currents while sharing stories about the area and pointing out local flora and the occasional fauna. After (or during!) your river adventure, consider stopping at the Reggae Hill Restaurant. This scenic riverside restaurant made my list of best restaurants in Ocho Rios, as it’s a wonderful place to unwind with cocktails and enjoy a sunset dinner overlooking the river.
Pro Tip: Always book travel insurance before a trip.
4. Take a Food Tour.

One of the best ways to experience Jamaican culture is through our food, and taking a food tour is a delicious crash course into island flavours. For food lovers, these experiences are among the most memorable things to do in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. Some great culinary experiences near Ocho Rios include:
- Stush in the Bush: an award-winning plant-based farm-to-table dining experience in the hills.
- Taste of Jamaica Food Tour: a guided tasting tour through local eateries and street food.
- Pure Chocolate Company: where you can participate in a chocolate-making workshop using Jamaican cacao.
- Sun Valley Plantation: this farm tour near Ocho Rios offers fruit tours where guests learn about the island’s agricultural traditions and sample seasonal tropical fruits. As a bonus, you can also feed hummingbirds by hand!
5. Go Horseback Riding.

Horseback riding along the beach is one of the most unique Ocho Rios attractions. This tour operator offers “Ride and Swim” excursions where you ride through tropical landscapes before entering the sea with your horse. It’s a fun and surprisingly peaceful experience that combines nature, adventure, and beautiful coastal views. These tours are suitable for beginners and are a popular Jamaican activity for couples and families.
6. Tour Seville Great House and Heritage Park.

For travelers interested in history, visiting Seville Great House is one of the most interesting cultural things to do in Ocho Rios. Located just outside town in St. Ann’s Bay, this historic estate sits on land that once hosted Taino, Spanish, African and British settlements, in that order. The site includes museum exhibits, archaeological ruins, and beautiful grounds that help tell the story of Jamaica’s colonial past. It’s an excellent stop for anyone wanting to better understand the island’s rich history. Also, if you’re ever in Jamaica on August 1, stop by to witness the Emancipation Jubilee celebration.
7. Explore the Green Grotto Caves.

Another unique adventure near Ocho Rios is exploring Green Grotto Caves. These limestone caves stretch deep underground and feature dramatic rock formations, hidden chambers, and a mysterious underground lake. Over the centuries, the caves have served as hideouts for smugglers and refuge for runaway enslaved people. Guided tours take visitors through the main caverns while explaining the history and geology of the area.
8. Make the Pilgrimage to Nine Mile.

Music lovers often make the journey to Nine Mile, the birthplace and final resting place of reggae legend Bob Marley. The remote small mountain village offers guided tours of Marley’s childhood home and mausoleum, providing insight into his life and musical legacy. It’s worth noting that the roads to Nine Mile are winding and rough, so many travelers choose to book a guided tour that includes transportation to and from Ocho Rios. Although it’s still on my own travel list, many visitors describe the experience as a meaningful cultural pilgrimage.
9. Adventure at Mystic Mountain.

For thrill-seekers, Mystic Mountain offers one of the most exciting Ocho Rios excursions. This rainforest adventure park features a chairlift ride through the forest canopy, the famous bobsled rollercoaster inspired by Jamaica’s Winter Olympics team, ziplining through the jungle, waterslides and infinity pools overlooking the sea. The views from the top of Mystic Mountain are spectacular, making it one of the most popular things to do in Ocho Rios.
10. Visit Yaaman Adventure Park.

Another exciting attraction is Yaaman Adventure Park. Located on a historic estate, this activity park offers a variety of outdoor adventures including ATV rides through tropical landscapes, camel encounters, cooking tours where you can learn to prepare traditional Jamaican dishes, bird aviaries and gardens. For families and adventure lovers, Yaaman Adventure Park offers a fun mix of culture, nature, and adrenaline-filled activities.
