According to the International Coffee Organization (ICO), coffee is the second most traded commodity in the world after oil, with consumption listed at half a trillion cups per year. Humans have been drinking coffee for its stimulant properties for over one thousand years. Coffee beans were first introduced to Jamaica in 1728, and since then has had a long and intricate relationship with Jamaica’s culture and economy. My favourite corner of Jamaica is the Blue Mountains. This commanding mountain range spans four parishes in the eastern end of the island and was recognized as Jamaica’s first UNESCO world heritage site in 2015.
