Think emerald mountains, rushing rivers, quiet beaches, and some of the most breathtaking natural attractions in the Caribbean. Unlike the large all-inclusive resorts in other parts of Jamaica, Portland and its capital Port Antonio offer a more intimate, authentic travel experience. There’s something in Portland, Jamaica for every budget as accommodations range from affordable campsites and eco-lodges to boutique hotels and luxury resorts. To help you choose, here are some of the best places to stay in Portland, Jamaica if you’re planning a trip, arranged from the most affordable to the most luxurious.

1. Lowe’s Camping Ground
If you’re looking for the most affordable yet comfortable accommodation in Portland, Lowe’s Camping Ground is a great place to start. Located in Orange Bay, Portland, this relaxed campground attracts adventurous travelers who want to experience Portland’s natural beauty without spending a fortune. At Lowe’s Camping Ground, you’ll find tent sites, outdoor cooking facilities, clean restrooms, a gazebo and kiddies’ playground surrounded by lush tropical greenery. Fancy more comfort than a tent? They also have simple self-contained rooms with modern amenities like air conditioning, TV, Wi-Fi and hot water to suit every taste. The atmosphere is casual, social, and laid-back— perfect for backpackers, surfers, or travelers exploring Portland on a budget. This is an excellent base for exploring the nearby Spanish River, and I enjoyed a memorable chat and playing dominos with the owners some years ago when I visited (read my full review here).
2. Bay View Eco Resort and Spa
For a quiet nature escape that still feels comfortable and refined, Bay View Eco Resort and Spa is a wonderful choice. This peaceful waterfront resort offers stunning views of the Caribbean Sea and surrounding rainforest. The property focuses on sustainability and wellness, making it ideal for travelers who want to unwind in a tranquil, environmentally conscious setting. A major perk is that breakfast is included in the room rate, making mornings here especially enjoyable. Guests often start the day with fresh tropical fruit, Blue Mountain Coffee and local dishes before heading out to explore Portland. With lush gardens, a spa and serene atmosphere, Bay View Eco Resort feels like a hidden sanctuary far from the crowds.
3. Moon San Villa
If staying near the famous Blue Lagoon is on your bucket list, Moon San Villa at the Blue Lagoon is the best value option in this area. Located just a few hundred feet from the lagoon, this charming villa offers breathtaking views of the Caribbean Sea and easy access to one of Jamaica’s most famous natural attractions. The Blue Lagoon with its mesmerizing shades of blue was the location of the 1988 film Cocktail starring Tom Cruise, and is known for its unique mix of freshwater and saltwater. Monkey Island, a tiny tropical islet just offshore, is located nearby and can be reached by boat, making it an easy adventure during your stay. Even better, breakfast is included. For travelers wanting to experience one of Jamaica’s most beautiful locations without paying luxury resort prices, Moon San Villa is an excellent choice.

Perched dramatically above the Caribbean Sea, the Portland Sea Cliff Resort & Spa offers one of the most breathtaking views in the parish. This romantic boutique resort sits on a cliff overlooking the ocean, and every room is designed to highlight the stunning coastal scenery. The rustic design, bamboo furnishings, plunge pools and open-air elements create a relaxing tropical atmosphere. A big bonus is that breakfast is included in the rate, allowing guests to start their day with ocean views and fresh local flavours. They even decorated the room for my husband’s birthday for free when we celebrated here some years ago, and offered complimentary room service! (Read my full review here). Sea Cliff provided memorable customer service, and I love that the location is also ideal for exploring some of Portland’s most beautiful natural attractions, namely:
- Reach Falls — one of Jamaica’s most scenic waterfalls, and
- Turtle Bay Cove and Beach — a secluded stretch of coastline perfect for relaxing.
6. Serendipity Beach Villa
Located directly on Turtle Bay Beach, Serendipity Beach Villa offers a luxurious and private coastal retreat. This beautiful villa features multiple bedrooms, outdoor spaces, and incredible ocean views. Guests can wake up to the sound of waves and step directly onto the beach for sunrise walks along the sand. This iconic beach is widely considered one of the most beautiful in the country, where a freshwater river flows directly into the sea. Visitors staying in the area can also enjoy horseback riding tours along the nearby coastline, adding a memorable adventure to their stay.

For a luxurious boutique experience, Geejam is one of the most famous hotels in the area. Guests stay in charming villas scattered throughout lush gardens and along the hillside. The setting feels peaceful, secluded, and timeless. Another fun activity nearby is horseback riding along the coast, which offers stunning views of Portland’s dramatic scenery.
